Intrepid Oilfield MgCl Products

Magnesium Chloride

Intrepid Road Guard is a concentrated magnestium chloride solution for dust control and stabilization of aggregate road surfaces. Magnesium chloride is hygroscopic, which means it, continuously attracts moisture from the surrounding atmosphere and resists evaporation, making it ideal for dust control.

At Intrepid, our high quality magnesium chloride is a by-product of our solar solution potash mining process.

Why Intrepid Road Guard?

Intrepid Road Guard helps bind fines and aggregate in the road surface to promote surface stability and resists formation of dust particles. Continual use, along with light watering in very low humidity periods, will minimize loss of road surface materials. Intrepid Road Guard is most effective when applied to road surfaces composed of well graded aggregate products with 5%-30% of the material passing a 200 mesh sieve and plasticity index greater than 3. Excessive fine materials may lead to a slippery road surface following application.

Dust Control Application

Road surface should be graded to drain effectivevly with either a center crown or slight drainage side slope depending on local requirements.

Recommended initial application rate os 0.3-0.5 gallons of Intrepid Road Guard per square yard of road surface for dust control. Light watering to create a damp road surface is recommended prior to Intrepid Road Guard application.

The most effective application method for both dust control and surface stabilization is to blade mix Intrepid Road Guard into the tp 2″-3″ of road surface material at the rate of 0.5 gallons per square yard of road surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the road need to be closed from traffic during application and for a period of time following application of Intrepid Road Guard?

A: Best results will be obtained if traffic is minimized as much as practical during application and for 12-24 hours following application to allow the road surface to firm up.

Q: Can Road Guard be applied during wet weather periods?

A: Best results will be obtained if Intrepid Road Guard is applied during a period when no significant precipitation is expected for a couple days. Intrepid Road Guard should not be applied if there is a good chance of a significant period of precipitation within 24 hours of application.

Q: Are there special precautions associated with the application of Intrepid Road Guard?

A: Intrepid Road Guard should be applied in a manner that eliminates the potential for the product to run off the road surface being treated. A minimum 25 foot buffer. should be maintained between treated road surfaces and any portions of the road surface graded to drain to surface water features. Consult applicable regulations regarding application of road dust control agents in the application area.
